This is Richard Petty's 1972 Daytona 500 car. Richard signed with Andy Granatelli at STP and ran a blue car with STP Logos at Riverside. This car was the first time that Richard appeared with the STP red on the car and that style of red was only run at the Daytona race. So this is a one race only paint scheme and it looks so sharp because it is a little different from the regular STP scheme that we are used to. They switched to the more familiar STP red paint scheme the following race.
