Description

1931 Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Monza (1/8) Partially Built

"Faithful reproduction of an existing motor car with a Spyder body, manufactured by Alfa Romeo from 1931-1934. This sportster's period of world fame stretched mainly in those years: years which witnessed impressive victories by the ace drivers of the time such as Nuvolari, Campari, Varzi, Borzacchini, Caracciola and so on."

Rendered from voluminous documentation, this model is manufactured in a variety of materials with a total of 1452 pieces. The steering gear and suspension is working.

At the International Toy Fair of Milan in 1966, the Pocher stand astonished the world with its wonderfully detailed 1:8 scale model of the Fiat F2 130HP, the car which won the 1907 French Grand Prix driven by Felice Navarro. The model contained 144 high-resistance plastic parts, 173 in brass and 506 in steel, copper, leather, rubber and aluminum. The Company went on to produce ever more detailed models of motoring classics including the 193134 Alfa Romeo 2300 Ac Monza, the 1932 Rolls Royce Phantom II Drophead Sedanca Coupe, the 1932 Alfa Romeo Touring, the Mercedes-Benz 500K/AK containing 2,378 part and then the Rolls Royce Torpedo Phantom II Convertible with 2,905 parts.

These kits were based on original plans from the manufacturer. Two features present on some models were spoked wire wheels that were assembled spoke by spoke, and engines with working crankshaft and piston assemblies. Assembly was mostly accomplished with threaded fasteners (screws, bolts, nuts) and very little glue. This created finished products that could theoretically be disassembled and repaired or modified. Kits came molded in color and ready painted.

Pocher car model kits are considered the ultimate ever produced with amazing detail: opening doors via operating handles, windows operate up and down, engine details include operating pistons and valves when the crankshaft is operated, true wire wheels you assemble spoke by spoke, working suspension, operating steering and functional brakes when the brake pedal is depressed. Bolts together just like the real car. This model can become a true museum quality finished product. Assembly is a commitment of time and patience and therefore not recommended for young children or the weak of heart.

This beautiful little Alpha kit has been started. It comes from a Pocher builder who passed away, the father in law of a close friend, and this was a work in progress when he passed. The kit is believed complete, but has not been inspected in detail and small discrepancies are to be expected. If you have built Pocher before and know what this is, you know this is a bargain. If you are not an experienced modeler or are expecting a perfect model this is not the model for you.

Some of the small parts bags on the box flaps had deteriorated with age and small metal parts were lose in the bottom of the box. We have gathered them up, and we have resealed all loose parts into categories as best we could. Again, Pocher experience will come in handy on this one. All major pieces are accounted for. The partial build has been well done as you can see from the pictures. However, we note the steering wheel has a couple of clean breaks and will need a simple re-glue.
Please look carefully through the picture rotation, and you will know as much about this model as we do. The complete sealed models sell in a range of $600-$1100. The complete partial builts that we found documentation on sold in a range from $250-$400. Individual parts for these sell in a range like prices for parts on real cars. Theoretically, a guy could part this kit out and do well based on what we saw.

The box top is discolored and faded with what appears to be slight water damage.
