1969 East Tennessee Motors Ford Torino Talledega driven by Richard Petty
1/25
Legend has it that "King Richard" asked Chrysler for a more aerodynamic
Roadrunner for 1969. Ford had dominated the 1968 Daytona 500 with their
more aerodynamic race cars. Plymouth basically offered him a revamped
'68 Roadrunner. He asked a second time, and Plymouth said no a second
time. Next thing you know Petty and Company are off to Ford Motor
Company driving a Petty Blue Torino Talledega.
The short-lived Polar Lights Nascar kits are already legendary for their
high level of detail and authenticity. It is hard to associate Richard
Petty with anything other than Mopar. But, there was that one year,
the Summer of Love, 1969, when King Richard flew the Blue Oval flag.
