Ford Mustangs from 1979-1993 were built on the Fox platform and were offered in many different variations. The popular LX model was a way to get high performance without the high sticker price of the GT model. The LX had all the power and none of the frills. In addition, the coupe body style made for a lighter car. For the same reason, the LX coupe became popular with state police departments around the country and has become a mainstay at local Friday Night race tracks.
