Shirley "Cha-Cha" Muldowney and her famous Funny Car Plymouth Hemi (1/10) (fs) Mint
Often considered one of the "Holy Grails" of model kit collecting, this example of Shirley Muldowney and her Hemi is the finest we have seen. The kit is factory sealed in a very rare perfect box.
The machine that powered Shirley to the top ranks of Drag-Racing stardom, the is a collectable caricature of Muldowney and her blown Hemi engine. Shirley was advised to take up drag racing by Schenectady police, who took a dim view of her high speed escapades on the streets of that upstate New York city. "I was bad news then", Shirley ruefully admits. Shirley hit the local strip and soon walked off with trophies to the amazement of local cronies.
After proving her worth, she moved into tougher classes, and then dragsters in 1967 and Funnies in 1971. The brunette mastered the Funnies and copped National honors at the IHRA Summer Nationals in Rockingham, North Carolina. When Shirley first started ripping big name Funny drivers, some took it hard. But, now, she claims, "they couldn't be nicer and readily offer advice and assistance."
