1965 Chrysler Imperial Custom "Hero" Convertible (2 'n 1) Custom or Custom Pick Up (1/25)
Issued in 1967, from the 1965 Imperial Tooling, the "Hero" is a fine example of one of the cool TV cars that AMT produced in the golden years of modeling. With its western body fringe and horseshoe door handles, some work would be involved in converting this custom into box stock, but it would be very doable.
The Hero was an American television sitcom that aired on NBC on Thursday Night at 9:30pm from September 8, 1966 to January 5, 1967. It was the first TV series for Richard Mulligan, who a decade later would star in the far-more-successful Soap. Did anyone out there ever see an episode? Like "Run Buddy Run", "Arnie", and "My Mother the Car", its TV life was short. The best thing that came out of it may be this unique and rare AMT model kit.
The one we have listed here is the best one we have ever seen. It is "minty" all the way to the excellent near perfect box. All model parts are present and even the decal sheet looks partially usable. We took some precautions to preserve the value and keep everything in tact. First, we have placed the body in a promo box to protect the windshield cowl. We also sealed the tires, metal axles and chassis screws and hood clip, and glass parts separately. We do note that the chrome Marshall's badge that has nothing to do with the model is missing.
