In 1961, the Continental was completely redesigned by Elwood Engel. For the first time, the names Lincoln and Continental would be paired together outside the Mark Series; along with replacing the Continental Mark V, the 1961 Continental replaced the Lincoln Capri and Premiere, consolidating Lincoln into a single product line. Originally intended to be the 1961 Ford Thunderbird, the design was enlarged and slightly altered before being switched to the Lincoln line by Robert McNamara. One of the most striking features of the new Continental was its size. It was 14.8 in (380 mm) shorter than its predecessor. So much smaller was this car, that advertising executives at Ford photographed a woman parallel parking a sedan for a magazine spread.

Of course the most recognizable trademark of the fourth generation Lincolns was the the front opening rear "suicide doors". The doors were implemented more for practical than stylistic reasons. The 4G Lincolns were a big hit, particularly with the business class. The 1963 Ad campaign encouraged businessmen to buy a "Blue Chip", and in this case the blue chip was not a Fortune 500 Stock, but a powder blue Lincoln Continental. We have a copy of one of the ads in our picture rotation.

This kit manufactured in late 1962 in the AMT Troy Michigan factory is a beauty. Crisply engraved in pristine white styrene, the kit is complete and the chrome is bright. We have resealed the parts inside, in their respective categories, to keep the contents fresh and in tact. We have also sealed the box for protection and care.
